The AFLDD committee met on Monday night with the topic of the structure of the men's competition on the agenda.
After 11 teams played in one division last year, a proposal to return to a two-division structure was well supported as it would allow clubs to align more often on the draw giving them the chance to play all age groups together.
AFL Darling Downs regional manager Keith Webb revealed there is backing from the clubs for the men's competition to return to two divisions.
"They could see the benefit of moving towards that system. What it means is that your club can stay together more on the same day,” he said.
The league has now asked for clubs to nominate which division they would like to contest and how many senior men's teams they would like to nominate.
Once nominations are in, AFLDD can then decide on the number of teams in each division.
With 11 teams last year, division one could be made up of six clubs, with the remaining five in division two.
If a club wanted to nominate two senior men's teams, their second team would join division two giving both grades even teams.
Should more than one club nominate two teams, AFLDD would then have to look at all nominations to work out the best structure.
