NEWS: FFV to hold specialist Goalkeeper' Coaching course in Werribee
FOOTBALL Federation Victoria is holding a Community Goalkeeping Course in Werribee next month, for coaches wishing to work with goalkeepers within grassroots/community football. It is the first time that such a course will be held in the western suburbs and will be co-facilitated by Geelong based specialist goalkeeping coach GOFC's Mike Chapman.

To be held at Werribee City FC’s Galvin Park on Saturday 11th and 18th of February, the all day course will start at 9am and run through til 5pm both days.
This course is player focussed and based on the delivery of goalkeeper sessions that are:
SAFE: Practices are conducted after considering safety aspects in relation to, People, Environment and Equipment (People: eg. practices - observers and participants are not placed where they can be hit by balls etc.: Environment; eg Area has been checked etc.: Equipment; eg shin pads worn, balls are well kept etc.
WELL ORGANISED: Coach manages players quickly into meaningful practices/games: Utilises a plan, whether provided by FFA or designed by themselves that delivers NFC outcomes.
ENJOYABLE: Players are engaged and have fun throughout the session eg Football games are being played for 80% of the session (A game does not need 11v11 but may comprise of a variety of players and has an area, rules, objective/goal and opposition)
REFLECTED: Coaches are able to review/reflect on the delivery of the session and can adapt future sessions to ensure the above outcomes are achieved.
On completion of any FFA Community Goalkeeping course the participant will be able to do the following:
- Identify the training requirements of junior / youth / senior goalkeepers
- Plan practices appropriate to the needs of junior / youth / senior amateur goalkeepers
- Identify methods to make training Inclusive for all participants
- Implement basic principles of goalkeeper coaching
- Conduct relevant, safe and engaging goalkeeper sessions
- Select appropriate methods to enhance performance
- Adapt the effectiveness of their coaching behaviours through self-reflection.
