NEWS: Successful Summer 7's tournament culminates with Finals in Ocean Grove
A HUGELY successful seven week Summer 7’s tournament series culminated in Ocean Grove on Wednesday night with the Finals of the Open Men’s, Open Women’s and Boys’ U14 categories at the Shell Road Reserve.
The Open Men’s division was taken out by The Shinboners, the Open Women’s saw the undefeated North Geelong Girls take out first prize, while the Northern Ninjas took out first place in the U14 Boys competition.
This year’s tournament was the first time a Summer 7’s tournament was held in the Geelong region, after several years of unsuccessful attempts at trying to organize the off-season event.
The president of the hosting club Surfside Waves, Kev Bowers, was over the moon with the manner in which the event had been administered over the past two months.
“The Summer 7’s Tournament was a great success for football in our region. Thank you to all that took part in the seven week series,” Bowers said.
“Congratulations to all the winning teams and especially to David Wilson who coordinated the nights superbly. We look forward to hosting the FFV event next year,” he added.
It is hoped that next year there will be at least two Summer 7s tournaments in the Geelong region - one in the northern zone, the other, south of the Barwon River.
