The region is being touted as a major breeding ground for women's AFL after five players from the Darling Downs were selected for the Brisbane Lions' 2017 academy squad.
Tammie Stower (South Toowoomba Bombers), Chloe MacDonald (South Toowoomba Bombers), Jessi Henning (Dalby Swans), Zimmorlei Farquharson (Dalby Swans) and Abbey Hancock (Faith Lutheran College) will all line up for the Lions' youth team next year.
"The talent pool on the Downs is very deep and we are a leader of the women's game in the state,” AFL Darling Downs regional manager Keith Webb said
The girls' selection comes with the region also boasting two representatives in the Lions women's squad for their inaugural AFL season next year.
South Toowoomba's Shaleise Law was drafted by the Lions last month while Warwick cricketer Delissa Kimmince also signed for the club.
And Webb is optimistic that even more from the region will be making their way to the top level of the women's game sooner rather than later.
"We have got some exceptionally talented girls here and it is nice to see all five of them make the team,” he said.
"We are going to see a lot more girls drafted from out this way.”
