A stunning three goal second-half fightback has secured Brisbane Roar Youth a 3-3 draw with Melbourne Victory Youth at Corporate Travel Management Stadium in the Foxtel National Youth League.
Young Roar fell three goals behind at half-time in their season opener, but stormed back to split the points on the back of second half goals to Shannon Brady, Nicholas D’Agostino and Dane Ingham.
An inspired second half performance from Brady commenced the fightback – the attacking midfielder opening Young Roar’s account on 52 minutes before setting up D’Agostino shortly after the hour to edge his side within a goal.
Minutes later D’Agostino spurned the chance to equalise from the penalty spot when his strike was saved by Victory Youth goalkeeper Stephen Hatzikiourtos
However, the hosts blushes were spared shortly after when Ingham converted a stunning finish just minutes later to level terms.
Earlier, Victory Youth shocked Young Roar with two goals in the opening ten minutes – Pierce Waring opening accounts after just three minutes with a slotted strike into the bottom corner, before Lucas Derrick added a second just five minutes later after capitalising on a Young Roar error.
The hosts weren’t without their chances in the opening stanza but conceded again immediately prior to the break when Aleksandar Stanisavljevic converted the visitors’ third with a strong, right-footed finish.
The draw sees Young Roar and Victory Youth hold a share of second in Conference A, with Melbourne City Youth topping the conference following a comprehensive 4-1 win over Adelaide United Youth on Saturday in Melbourne.
In Sunday’s Conference B ties, FFA Centre of Excellence downed Central Coast Mariners Youth 2-1 in Canberra, while Newcastle Jets Youth saw off a fightback from Western Sydney Wanderers Youth to prevail 4-3 in Newcastle.
