NEWS: Coaches sought for Geelong rep squads at 2017 Vic Country Championships
GOFC, in conjunction with the Geelong Region Football Committee (GRFC), is inviting interested coaches to apply for a variety of coaching positions with the Geelong region Boys and Girls representative squads for next year's Victotrian Country Championships squads, to be held in Morwell over the Queen's Birthday long weekend.
Expressions of interest are now open for coaches and assistant coaches for the Geelong Region junior country championship teams, with the selected coaches to be announced by early December..
The various Boys teams include the following age groups:
- U11 (9v9) Format (players born 2006)
- U12 (11v11) Format (players born 2005)
- U13 (11v11) Format (players born 2004)
- U14 (11v11) Format (players born 2003)
- U15 (11v11) Format (players born 2002)
- U16 (11v11) Format (players born 2001)
The various Girls teams include the following age groups:
- U12 (11v11) Format (players born 2005/06)
- U14 (11v11) Format (players born 2003/04)
- U16 (11v11) Format (players born 2001/02)
Accreditation Requirements:
Coaches must hold a current recognised FFA coaching accreditation (Minimum Skill Acquisition Certificate) and current working with children check. Proof required
Assistant Coaches must hold a current recognised FFA coaching accreditation (Minimum Grassroots Certificate) and current working with children check. Proof required
Tournament Information and Preparation.
Players will be identified from 3 trials which will take place in February 2017.
From the 3 trials a development squad of 24 players (22 players for U11’s) for each age group will be selected. Each squad will have 2 training session’s (1 in Feb, 1 in March) and potentially 1 weekend of friendly matches (April 1st/2nd)
The final squads of 16 (14 U11’s) will be named after this friendly weekend.
The final squads will then complete 5 training sessions commencing week of Monday 1st May.
The Tournament will be held over Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th and Monday 12th June at Morwell Gippsland.
Coaches and Assistants will be required to:
- Attend 3 trials in February (Mandatory for their squad) and assist with the identification of other squads. (Trial formats to be discussed prior to commencement and agreed upon by all coaches, identification process and documents to be supplied)
- In conjunction with GOFC, identify and confirm the development squad of 24 (22 U11’s) players.
- Plan and conduct the 2 development sessions in Feb/March (venues and dates/times are the responsibility of the coaches) Coaches will also need to provide their own equipment if possible.
- Manage the pre-season friendly matches.
- Liaise with GOFC to confirm the final squad of 16 (14 U11’s).
- Provide a brief written feedback report for the players who missed out outlining strengths and weaknesses (template will be supplied).
- Plan and conduct the 5 pre-tournament training sessions in May/June (Venues and dates/times are the responsibility of the coaches). Coaches will also need to provide their own equipment if possible.
- Manage the squad for the 2016 Country Championships in Morwell – Note there is no requirement for equal playing time or amount of game starts BUT all players must receive a minimum amount of game time every game.
- For U11 – U14 Boys, and all girls’ ages this is 50% of game time.
- U15/U16 Boys minimum of 25 minutes of game time.
- Coaches to provide their own equipment for the weekend including 3 match balls, and warm up equipment.
- Provide a brief written feedback report for all players outlining strengths and weaknesses (template will be supplied)
Remuneration
Coaches and Assistant coaches will receive payments for the sessions and expenses towards the weekend. (Coaches are responsible for their own transport and accommodation).
Coaches - Up to $1225
Assistant coaches - Up to $755
All coaches will receive GRFC/GOFC endorsed Jacket

Applications close Friday November 25th 2016. All applicants will be contacted the week of November 28th and depending on the response an informal interview may be required. Coaches will be announced ideally by December 1st .
