Peter Barnett sharing expertise
On his first day meeting with KBF and NBDO, he was excitied and happy to met his recent career with Kiribati Basketball and from that moment he was transported to Betio watching the Taiwan Cup and have time as well observing officials progressive. On that night Peter spend 1 and half hours assessing referees and scoretables sharing his expertise with positioning, reporting and controlling the game. With every single move occurs from referees, Peter was there explaining and demostrated little things to be very clear and understood by referees. At every break of quarters and in between he also shadowing running between referees keeping them in the right position "you are not in the right position come up a bit, go down a bit" Peter said. The other thing that keeps referees was communication not to look at the ball the same time but to look on both side such as on the ball and offball movement. All correction made could also make a big difference with referees in doing their duties that night. After an hour completing working with referees, he having time assessing scoretables gone through their skills and undstanding on how they manange scoring onto scoresheet and together with operating the electronic scoreboard at break time intervals. Peter said that what really could make games possible and successful is from a good communication between tables and referees at all times. He spend half an hour with score keepers and ask for giving him a rest as it's 9:00 in the evening. After a short activity runs by Peter, NBDO and the Vice President discuss a bit further scenarios and then arrange Saturday to come up and work with other officials who are not on that night.
On Saturday 29th October, Peter was also running the same clinics runs the other night with other officials. All officials was there and it's good for him to got involve and familiar with officials. Peter spend 2 and half hours watching and helping officials improve. He also met Mr Kautu and Rota who are the head of the KNOC and still active in assisting basketball especially as referees and coaches. During Taiwan Cup Kautu and Rota were refereeing the game 2 days a week in Bairiki and in the finals. Before starting the third match, NBDO just arrange time with Peter to meet with KBF executives and officials to arrange the next activity for officials. On Tuesday 1sh November, NBDO emailing officials and KBF informing about the meeting with Peter to be held at KNOC boardroom 5pm, Friday 4th Nov. Peter and other officials are responding to this email and they are looking forward to discuss what really need to be improved.
