Taiwan Cup Tournament
The tournament is actually the new event just created by the Ministry for Women, Youth and Social Affairs in cooperation and negotiation with Taiwan Embassy in Bairiki. The aim and goal of this event is to run pregames practices prior the major national championship in 2017. As the decision confirmed that Taiwan need team sport such as Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer to participate in the tournament. Taiwan was the official sponsor for this tournament giving AUD$20,000+ according to the budge proposed by the ministry. One month before, the ministry organized meeting with team national sport federation giving them time proposing a plan, categories to participate, fixtures and together with budgeting including expenses for prizes, refreshment (openning&closing), officials allowance. Other expenses was covered by the ministry such as usage of electricity, hire of venues and a daily refreshment for officials.
While the preparation finalized by sport federations, sponsor and the ministry, the official advertisement announced for the official openning. On Saturday 15th October, there were 2,000 players participated in the openning from differents clubs within Tarawa and Betio and together with outer islands. Among these participants, there were 24 teams from basketball in different clubs such as TUBA club, Bik Dreams club, Pioneer club, Saints club, Bairiki club and Betio club. Out of these clubs there were 4 different categories participated including senior men, women (Div 1), Junior boys (Div 2) and junior boys (Div 3). The veteranz also participated in the tournament just for men from 40yrs to 49yrs in 3X3 games.
The KBF did commence the games on Monday the following week starting with BTC club against Bik Dreams club. The format of the game was games in club which is four categories should play against other clubs with 4 categories. Most of the games runs every day and including weekend.
