Western Pride have signed former Brisbane Roar Youth defender - and Ipswich junior - Josh Grommen to their squad for 2017.
The 20-year-old (pictured right alongside Philipine international Iain Ramsay) joins following a stint in the Philippines where he played for local professional club Stallion FC and was previously selected for Philipines Under 23 team.
Grommen, who played junior football with Pride catchment club Western Spirit, is a product of the Queensland Academy of Sport before advancing to Young Roar's 2015 PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues squad.
Pride coach Graham Harvey said Grommen was the perfect fit for Pride, as they seek to improve on four straight years of bottom-half of the table finishes.
“He fits all of our criteria - young, talented, has a desire to play at the higher level - so he is the perfect fit,” Harvey said.
“I think he will be a great asset and continue to improve us defensively.”
Harvey had been on the lookout for a new centre-back after losing several defenders overseas mid-season.
Grommen is the first incoming signing and second confirmed player as the Ipswich-based Pride prepare for their fifth season in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues.
He has been identified as a potential defensive partner for Corey Lucas, who re-signed with Pride in September following a solid 2016 season.
The club is expected to announce further player retentions soon with pre-season training commencing in November.
