WHOROULY is facing a race against time to secure a senior football coach for the 2017 Ovens and King Football League season.
After a disappointing year in which they won just five matches, the Lions’ odds of climbing the ladder in 2017 have blown out, with their ability to recruit severely hampered by the vacant coaching position.
After one year in the role, Nathan Hooper has stepped down.
While Hooper has been linked with a move back to Milawa, where he played 43 senior matches and booted 114 goals from 2013-15, Whorouly Football Netball Club president Eddie Costenaro said the nuggetty forward had indicated he would continue to play for the Lions.
“Nathan has a busy schedule, and with a baby on the way he couldn’t commit to coaching,” Costenaro said.
“But the last time we spoke he said that he was staying as a player and would be happy to help out where he could.”
