Congratulations to Mansfields James cousins!
Mansfield’s James Cousins has capped off a superb season by winning the John Byrne Medal as the Murray Bushrangers Best & Fairest. The gun midfielder polled votes in every game he played during the year to finish with 31 votes ahead of joint runner up Ryan Garthwaite (Corowa- Rutherglen) & Lachlan Tizaini (Albury) who both finished on 22 votes.
Cousins had a superb middle period of the season where he polled maximum votes against the Eastern Ranges & Northern Knights in Round 11 & 12. The hard running midfielder has been a tower of strength all season which has included an opportunity to play Richmond VFL during the year.
Garthwaite who missed games with injury and Nationals during the season had a strong finish to the year including a stellar finals series where he polled maximum votes in the preliminary final win over Oakleigh Chargers. Tiziani who returned as a 19 year old this season played through the midfield early in the year before setting the competition alight as a a deep forward, where he also won the clubs goal kicking award.
Wangaratta’s Nick Richards was named player of the finals series whilst Shepparton’s Harry Boyd was rewarded for his leadership and flexibility by winning the Coaches Award.
Cobram’s Esava Ratugolea was named most improved, Shepparton’s Jordan’s Butts the trainer award whilst Doulton Langlands won the Ashley Cox award as the best bottom age player.
Wodonga’s Hudson Garoni was named Under 16 MVP with Shepparton United’s Zane Barzen Runner Up MVP.
Five Staff Members received 10 years Service Awards with Cam Eason (Trainer), Greg Laidlaw (Game Day Manager), Bernie Silvey (Time Keeper), Marty Hogan (Lead Physiotherapist) and Mal Robinson (Trainer) all acknowledged for their loyal dedication and work for to the club.
