This weekend marks the start of the business end of the season for four of the six Trend Interior Carpet Court AFL Capricornia teams, for the other two its curtains on 2007 and time to start preparing for 2008.
The four finalists embarking on the finals series are the two powerhouse sides of 2007 the Panthers and the Saints who finished first and second respectively, these two sides will enjoy the week off before going head to head in the second semi final next Saturday at Kele Park. This week's first semi final at Clinton Park between third placed Gladstone and fourth placed Yeppoon will see the loser bow out for 2007 with the winner booking a spot in the preliminary final on Saturday fortnight.
This week's first semi final looks set to be an absolute block buster with both Gladstone and Yeppoon looking very even on paper going into the match. For Yeppoon the form of their young players in particular Cam and Daniel Watkin has been exceptional, the swanies will need them up all and running on Saturday. The muddies appear pretty even across the field and will need to get on top in the midfield where they boast experienced player like Jason Chirgwin and Andy Travers. With no prizes for second place and elimination facing one team this one could go either way. In the reserve grade finals this weekend the 3rd placed bulls take on the 4th placed saints in what is a very wide open competition for the flag.
In Paul Archer the Good Guy junior footy this weekend the first semi final showdowns have the swans taking on the muddies in the under 17's, the bulls playing the roos in the under 15's and in the under 13's the saints tackling the panthers. Good luck to all teams!
