It's round 2 in the Trend Interiors Carpet Court AFL Capricornia competition with this weeks round looking very intersting with three great games to look forward to.
The Port Curtis region will host their first game of the year with the CQU Rockhampton Panthers traveling to Clinton Park to take on the Glasdstone Mudcrabs. Both of these sides look like being much improved outfits in 2007 if their round one form is anything to go by after both teams missed the finals in 2006.
The Panthers were very impressive after half time in their round one clash against the Glenmore Bulls running out evenyual 9 goal winners and will travel to Gladstone quietly confident. The Muddies were equaly as impressive in round one traveling to Swan Park and controling the middle stages of the match, had it not been for their slow start and finish they may have taken the four points from eventual 28 point winners the Swans.
Both sides are new look teams in 2007 boasting a number of new recruits and are desperate to improve on 2006. For the Panthers they will need to keep a close on eye the dangerous Jason Chirgwin in the midfield, Brendan and Nathan Parnaby, Chris Neilsen and Jayden Montague. the Muddies will need to close down the Panthers run through the midfield and supply to their forwards, to do this they will need to stop the likes of Liam Kronk, Clint Evans and Clinton Sutton. Expect a close game with the side getting on top through the midfield taking the four opoints.
In the local derby in Rockhanmpton the Glenmore Bulls travel to Kele Park to take on arch rivals the Brothers Roos. These two sides seem to bring the best out in each other and expect another hard fought game here.
The Bulls came out all guns blazing last week against the Panters and were the better side for the first half, the half time break did no favours for the bulls as they were eventually run over by the Panthers. The young Roos ran into a BITS Saints outfit on fire last week and will need to put that result behind them and focus on the bulls this week. The Bulls will need to keep a close eye on the likes of Errol Rowe, Bendan Ridgley and Garry Turnbul all who can create havoc. For the Roos they will need to stop the Bullls young guns Ben Tickner, Ross Baefel and Aaren Russel who were all very dangerous last week against the Panthers.
If the Bulls can put four quaters together they will be very hard to beat, expect a much improved performance from the Roos.
In the last game of the weekend the reigning premiers the BITS Saints make the long journey to Swan Park to take on Yeppoon in what promises to be a tight and tough match, both of these sides were impressive first up winners in round one.
The BITS Saints were devasting in their victory over Brothers last week and showed that with Daren Boase, Keith Bilston, Nathan Shipard and Mark Thomas all in fine form they will be very tough to beat. The Swans looked very good last week in their victory over the Muddies, Adam Jophnson played well in the ruck freeing up the dangerous Wes Hawke to play at full forward.
The Saints will need to keep a close eye on these players along with the Swans young brigade of Matt Wallin fresh from a stint with the Country Kookaburra's and Cameron and Daniel Watkin. For the Swans to succeed they will need to shut down the supply from the BITS midfield to the evergreen Darren Boase. Expect the result to be heavily affected by the ability of the BITS Saints to back up with another long road trip and their ability to play the tricky Swan Park.
Seniors start at 2:30pm and Reserves at 12:45pm.
