Secondary school girls in Capricornia have had their firts taste of AFL with the inagural junior and senior girls AFL carnival day being held at the end of October in the region. Gilrs from schools across the region including Moura SHS, Tannum Sands SHS, Gladstone SHS, St Ursula's and Girls Grammar to name a few all came together to contest the first ever girls only AFL competition for the region. AFL Queensland have been conducting clinics in secondary schools for girls for a number of years now and the interest from the participating girls had been fantatsic and lead to the carnival day at Rockhampton's Stenlake park. The games which were played in a 9 per side modified format were contested by a number of teams in the senior and junior divisions. After a great day enjoyed by all the winning schools form each division were the Gladstone SHS Sharks in the junior division and the Glenmore SHS girls in the senior division. AFL Queensland look forward to this competition being an anual part of the game development calander in the region in the future.
