The four-day NAB AFL Draft Combine wrapped up on Sunday and was followed by the single-day Victorian State Combine, with five Peter Jackson VFL players participating in the various skill-based and physical tests conducted at Etihad Stadium.
Footscray young gun Ben Long (pictured) tested at the national Draft Combine, while highly-rated Coburg half-back Luke Ryan was in attendance but didn’t test as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
Long recorded a level 13.6 beep test as well as times of 10:52 in the 3km time trial, 3.03 seconds in the 20m sprint and 25.90 seconds in the repeat sprint test, while also finishing equal-third in the kicking test.
Lions midfielder Robbie Fox, Geelong VFL mid-forward Sam McLachlan, North Ballarat ruckman Rowan Marshall and Casey Scorpions big man Oscar McInerney participated in the State Combine, while Scorpions key-position player Declan Keilty and Cats defender Tom Stewart were invited but didn’t test.
