Female athletes of all persuasions are encouraged to attend the first SANFL Women’s Talent ID Session on October 15 and 16.
Females aged over 16 can now register for the SANFL’s Women’s Talent ID Session, which will be held at Flinders University’s Shape Research Centre.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, SA Football Commissioner Jane Woodlands-Thompson said the testing across the two days would mirror that undertaken by men at the AFL Combine.
Football is now looming as a genuine sporting pathway for females, with the establishment of the Women’s AFL to be played in February next year.
In South Australia, the admittance of the Crows for the inaugural season has seen a sudden spike in interest from females currently participating in other sports.
There will be no better example of this than star Adelaide player Erin Phillips, who will lace up the boots despite being an accomplished WNBA basketballer who represented Australia at the Rio Olympics in August.
Woodlands-Thompson also chats about her experience at the recent AFL Women’s All-Star match between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne.
The former Thunderbirds coach sat in the grandstand to soak up the electric atmosphere at Whitten Oval, together with an entertaining brand of football which saw the Bulldogs victorious.
