Seven former Peter Jackson VFL players will run out for Sydney or the Western Bulldogs in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final at the MCG after the teams were announced Thursday night.
Two Swans and five Bulldogs played in the VFL before being recruited into the big league, with Frankston and Williamstown providing two Grand Final participants each.
Western Bulldogs duo Tory Dickson and Matthew Boyd both spent time at the Dolphins, with Dickson representing the club in 2009 before being drafted with pick no.57 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft from now-defunct VFL club Bendigo and Boyd selected with pick no.23 in the 2001 Rookie Draft from Frankston.
Their Bulldogs teammate Liam Picken (pictured, left) was selected from the Seagulls with pick no.30 in the 2008 Rookie Draft, while Sydney defender Dane Rampe represented the club from 2009-11 before later being drafted from NSW local ranks.
Swans hard-nut Ben McGlynn (pictured, centre) was originally selected by Hawthorn with pick no.55 in the 2005 Rookie Draft from the Box Hill Hawks, with Bulldogs defenders Dale Morris (pictured, right) taken with pick no.19 in the 2004 Rookie Draft out of Werribee and Shane Biggs drafted from Bendigo’s VFL team with pick no.13 in the 2011 Rookie Draft.
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge is also a former Frankston player.
