National 1 Plumbing Division 1
Grand Final
Morphettville Park v West Adelaide
2:30pm Sunday 18th September, ALDI Arena
Morphettville Park have won their third consecutive premiership with a commanding 40-point win over West Adelaide on Sunday in the National 1 Plumbing Division One Grand Final.
With a win from underdogs Mount Barker in the Division Two final against Mount Lofty before the game, Westies were looking to perform a similar feat, having had no luck against the top side in previous campaigns.
Westies started with the wind in their favour, of which Killian took full advantage of with a goal from 50 early in the first term.
Morphettville Park pushed into attack, but West Adelaide’s defence held firm.
The Roos composed themselves with strong attacking system and pushed the ball forward again, finding the hands of Edwards who evened the score with a goal to Morphettville Park.
Morphettville Park’s strong attacking power forced Westies to play a defensive game, however, the team stood up against the immense pressure with strong play from West Adelaide’s Hilton and McMahon.
The second quarter was played largely on the Roo’s half forward line with Westies players flooded in defence, reducing Morphettville Park to just one goal for the quarter.
Despite West’s strong defence, the team struggled to bring the ball through the midfield due to the Roo’s effective defensive wall.
The third quarter saw an increase of physicality by Morphettville Park as they battled to widen the margin between the two teams.
Westies broke through the wall, but failed to optimise on a goal opportunity under intense pressure from the Roos.
However, the team was not discouraged and pushed the ball forward for Westies second goal of the game.
Hopes for Westies to make a comeback were short lived with a snap from Sedunary in the goal square, followed not long after with another goal by Edwards.
A heavy collision resulted in a West Adelaide’s Fraser being taken to hospital in an ambulance and the game was delayed for 40 minutes.
The game resumed with 4 minutes left of the quarter, with Morphettville Park scoring a late goal.
The last quarter with the wind saw the Roos attack strongly, locking the ball into their forward 50 and scoring another two goals, effectively putting an end to any hope for a West Adelaide revival.
The final siren saw Morphettville Park run out convincing winners by 40 points.
West Adelaide’s Degabriele was awarded Best on Ground with an impressive display of intense footy around the packs and repelling Morphettville Park attacks.
