Warragul's Brad Scalzo has taken home the TRFM Gippsland League's highest individual honour the Trood Award & Rodda Medal.
On Monday night over 250 people were present at the Premiere Function Centre for the TRFM Gippsland League Senior Presentation Night. The showpiece event on the agenda produced an exciting finish which saw Scalzo claim the award with a best on ground 3 votes on the last vote card of the count.
After round nine Scalzo was leading the award on 12 votes with Michael Kelly from Wonthaggi a close second on 11 votes. As the count moved through it was teammate Nath Paredes who shot through the pack to take the lead with 16 votes after the end of round 15 with Scalzo only one behind after another 3 votes in round 12 against Bairnsdale.
By the end of round 17 it was a race in two with Paredes and Scalzo continuing to poll well. The last vote card in round 17 saw Scalzo claim the 1 vote against Traralgon moving to 18 votes, two votes clear of Paredes. Less then ten seconds later and it was Paredes with the 3 votes, handing him a one vote lead into the final round.
The final vote card of the count was Warragul v Maffra. Chris Carey from Warrgul claimed the 1 vote, Jarryd Closhesy from Maffra claimed and after a long pause it was '3 votes, Warragul, Brad Scalzo'. Brad Scalzo the winner of Trood Award & Rodda medalist for 2016.
