Players to Watch
Mount Lofty:
Experience can count for a lot in finals, and with both teams fresh to the SAWFL, Bridgette Needs may just be the only 2015 Div. 2 Premiership player out on the park on Sunday. She has had a stellar year in the ruck and will no doubt play the bulk of the match there Sunday Mount Lofty will surely be looking to spread Mount Barker thin and move the ball quickly- where better to start than the clearances? If she can get some width into her taps and allow her rids to take it on the run they might be able to blow the Roos away early.
Mount Barker:
Margaret Chaplin might not get the quantity of ball that Bamford does but she does deliver quality. Last week against the Blacks she was the difference in the first half, getting important touches and rarely making a mistake with the ball. Finals footy is all about making the most of your chances, which Barker will need Chaplin to at every turn if they want to stay in the match. If Chaplin can keep a level head under pressure and have an influence, the Roos have a chance at controlling the tempo of the match and playing it in their terms.
The Match
Last time these two played Lofty had 11 scoring shots to 3, with some errant kicking keeping the Roos in the match. One could argue that the Roos learnt more than Lofty that game though, so don’t assume the outcome of this one is a foregone conclusion. It may sounds like an obvious statement but the tempo of the match will decide the winner. If Lofty is in control it will be a free flowing, high scoring encounter. If Barker are at the helm it will be a tough team game where every player on the park will need to be ready and willing to go in for the hard ball gets. The question on everyone’s lips is, will spearhead Lauren Taylor be back for the Big Dance? Without her, the Roos will go in as huge underdogs. With her, this match is truly too close to call.
A special mention must go to Mount Lofty’s Shae Pacifico Hart who will miss the Grand Final in heart breaking fashion due to injury. Congratulations on a stellar year Shae.
