IN the under 14 grand final the Saints were able to establish early dominance with a four goal opening stanza over opponents Mansfield Eagles.
The Eagles were up against a strong one-two punch in their backline with Saints Ryley Bouker and Declan Bren, the two leading goal kickers in the under 14 competition, sparking big grand final performances.
The second term saw the Eagles soar back into the contest, matching the Saints’ first quarter effort of 4.3, but the Saints booted 2.4 against the wind to maintain a 16-point lead at halftime.
The Eagles were up for the fight, knowing if they held on in the third quarter, they had the chance to overcome the Saints in the last and the Mansfield side did well.
Again holding the Saints to four goals in the quarter, the Eagles swooped on some nice plays from their teammates to
boot through 2.1 and be down by just 27 points at the last term and setting up a thrilling finish.
But the Saints wouldn’t allow it.
They could smell the determination of the Eagles and lifted their game accordingly.
Kicking against the wind didn’t faze the Saints who booted through four goals from eight scoring shots in the final quarter to stamp out the 37-point victory.
Ryley Bouker came into the game six goals away from being the first player in W&DJFL history to kick 100 goals in a season and he delivered by booting through seven majors and was also named best on ground.
For the Eagles, they shared the scoring around four players who all kicked multiple goals, while Tom Dunstan was adjudged best on ground for the losing team.
