Young gun Nicola Barr claims the 2016 Mostyn Medal
Sydney University Bombers player Nicola Barr has claimed the 2016 Mostyn Medal as she topped off a brilliant year which saw her emerge as a national female talent.
Barr, who is just 20 years of age claimed the Women’s Premier Division best and fairest medal by three votes beating out Amanda Farrugia in a close run best and fairest race.
The 2015 AFL Sydney Women’s Rising star had a brilliant season amassing 24 votes in a stand out season where she played 16 matches and kicked 23 goals. Nicola polled well all season receiving votes on ten occasions. She started the season with a bang polling in all of her first 5 games and collecting 12 votes of a possible 15. Her performances were outstanding and Nicola was able to collect 6 best on ground performances where she was able to get the 3 votes.
Winning the Mostyn Medal will only increase Nicola’s chances of being drafted in this year’s Women’s Draft as the AFL establish their inaugural women’s league.
Amanda Farrugia of Macquarie University finished the year in second place on 21 votes while fellow Sydney University Bomber Sera Kaukiono finished third on 15 votes.
