GLENROWAN’S status as one of the Ovens and King Football League’s greatest teams was secured on Saturday afternoon as the Kelly Tigers became just the fourth club to capture three straight premierships.
The Tigers romped to a 64-point win over a thoroughly outclassed Tarrawingee, with Luke Fox, Gus Gray and Jordan Hansted leading the rout with outstanding displays.
On the big stage, the opening was crucial and Glenrowan won the first battle of the day with the coin toss, electing to kick to the river end which was favoured by a strong wind.
The gust took some adjusting to for both sides, however, and with the oval still slick from overnight rain the opening minutes of the game were scrappy.
Hansted showed a vice-like grip when the ball entered his vicinity though, and got the Tigers off to a flyer.
Eight minutes in he was the beneficiary of a brilliant cross from Mat Duffy, marking 20m out for an easy goal.
