Star Darebin midfielder Daisy Pearce was named the best and fairest player of the inaugural Swisse VFL Women’s season at the VFL’s best and fairest night on Monday.
28-year-old Pearce won the count on 33 votes, four votes clear of St Kilda midfielder Brianna Davey on 29, with Melbourne Uni on-baller Ellie Blackburn a further six votes back on 23.
The Melbourne AFL Women’s Marquee Player polled votes in 15 of 17 games for the undefeated Falcons, including five best-on-ground performances, eight two-vote games and two single-vote matches. She was even on 23 votes with Davey after Round 13, but polled in all five remaining games while Davey could only manage three two-vote performances to fall just short.
The Carlton Marquee Player, 21, still polled in 13 of 18 matches – including five best-on-ground performances – while Western Bulldogs Marquee Player Blackburn, 21, polled in nine of 17 games, also with five three-vote performances.
Equal-fourth-placegetters, Darebin’s 76-goal forward Katie Brennan and Diamond Creek captain Steph Chiocci, tallied the most best-on-ground performances with six apiece.
The win was Falcons captain Pearce’s seventh league best and fairest after previously claiming six awards in the Victorian Women’s Football League, while it was also her fourth straight gong following VWFL Premier Division triumphs from 2013-15.
