University has ended the unbeaten run of South Toowoomba and won the club's first AFL Darling Downs flag after a strong win in the grand final at Heritage Oval.
In wet and muddy conditions, Uni prevailed 11.10 (76) to 6.11 (47) much to the joy of the Cougars players and their supporters.
South Toowoomba had won 16-straight games on the way to the grand final but couldn't build on that run in the biggest game of the season.
University coach Tony Bullen was thrilled for his players and support staff.
"It is indescribable. It is a feeling of reward for the work put in this year by everyone," he said.
University's Ben Holmes played strongly in the win and took out the Ellen McConachie Medal for best on ground.
The result left Souths disappointed after such a dominant season.
