B Grade Wirrulla 19.9 – 123, Central Eyre 6.4 – 40 (Wirrulla by 83 points)
Wow, nobody but the most die hard of Bomber supporters will have predicted such a Grand Final raid. The Bombers and Dogs have fought out recent epic clashes, however the Wirrulla side did not come with a view for theatre, they are now very adept at the operations in the Grand Final department, three consecutive flags, and similarly to 2015, sewn up with a convincing first half that swept their opposition away, then maintaining a scoring pressure. Bombers won every quarter and so often out numbered the Bulldogs in contests, just as Centrals have all year to their opponents.
Ollie Mc Cullum a popular choice for the best afield, almost impassable, he worked so hard all day, Jake Adamson-Thain also close to the best afield, came off for a while after an apparent knock but his ball winning ability in the air or at the contest was outstanding. Jai Holmes on the wing played beyond his younger years, his speed invaluable, Mark Binder a very important in to the side, his poise and use of the ball superb, Jack Kelsh with run and creativity, a great one grab type player, who will play at higher levels if he chooses to, Vinnie Blumson on the back of a great season played well. Craig Johnson a tower forward, five big goals leading the scoring, Tyron Fox, 4 goals and all when the game was up for grabs.
Centrals didn’t really get started until the last quarter, and will be disappointed knowing that they played below their usual standard. Put together passages that looked dangerous but maybe lacked some of the extra Grand Final work rate required. Daniel Kwaterski leading the best players for the Bulldogs, unlucky the narrowly miss A Grade selection, he possesses great speed and skill. Joe O Brien was everywhere, dangerous forward with three goals and also picked up plenty across the centreline, Brandon Waters from the wing worked hard, he is another with A Grade potential, great decision making ability and doesn’t mind a run, Jack Sampson, high work rate and enthusiastic competitor, another future A Grade regular, Jamie Paynter showed class.
Coach Andrew Patterson very pleased with his charges, he could not have asked for a higher commitment for the cause. No passengers, just a well drilled and honed team effort. May need to start renovations again at the Hanger, they will be needing more trophy display space at the rate that they are collecting them!
Congratulations Wirrulla Reserves Premiers.
