Colts West Coast Hawks 28.14 – 182, Central Eyre 2.5 – 17
An emphatic victory to start the day, the young Hawks dominant from the start, maintaining pressure all day against the smaller bodied, but big hearted Bulldogs. Eight goals start by the Hawks in the first quarter and not looking back. Excellent team oriented style of football, plenty of runners and great targets to kick to.
Jay Johns winning the ML O Brien Medal as the best afield, topping off a great year personally and as captain of the premiers. Narrowly behind him was Callum Saunders, plenty of the footy and ability to use it under pressure. The run and carry of Harmyn Baldock, mainly around the centre, but prepare to work back quickly, Jackson Hutchison and Ikale Godwin constant ball winners and delivering forward with devastating efficiency. Jett Brooks and Jacob Baldock in outstanding form across half back. Great targets forward, Harry Goosay and Zak Lovegrove six goals each, along with Jay Johns with six. Plenty to like about how the Hawks use the footy, some great goal to goal passages of play.
Central Eyre has plenty to look forward to, they came up against a physically bigger opponent this day, but no-one took any steps backward. Talent a plenty coming through. Great games from their leaders, Corey Waters worked for his team through out, highly skilled and creative, Mackenzie Heath another high possession game, he loves the harder contests and strong bodied, Joe O Brien all over the ground, long kicking and ability to run away from opponents, Thomas Scholz held down key backlines roles with aplomb, younger brigade Saxon and Kye O’Brien played excellent matches, Daly Beard had the crowd cheering with some beautiful moves, and Tom Rushmer in and under winning plenty for his team.
Both coaches – Stephen Baldock and Craig O’Brien will be very pleased with the efforts of their charges.
Congratulations the West Coast Hawks – 2016 Colts Premiers.
