‘WHO dares, wins’ is the motto of elite special forces units around the world, and it was a fitting catch cry for Tarrawingee following Saturday’s preliminary final victory over Bonnie Doon.
Bulldogs coach Trevor Edwards said it wasn’t until his side was willing to risk losing the battle that triumph became a possibility.
“With the condition of the ground it was always going to be that tough, contested sort of game, but we just didn’t hold up our end of the bargain in the first half,” Edwards said.
“We played it far too safe in the first half – we were playing wet weather football, and kicking long down the line made us too easy to defend.
“Their defenders are good at zoning off and standing in the hole, so they would clear it out of our forward line in the first half and we’d just kick it in the same way, where they had their numbers.
“In the third quarter we finally started to play through the middle of the ground, and that was when we were able to open them up a little bit.
