The Gap FC Women’s Jessica Dillon admits there will still be plenty of nerves during the PlayStation 4 NPL Women’s Queensland Grand Final despite her club’s dominant 2016 season.

Gators have been the stand-out side of this year’s campaign after winning every match of the regular season to claim their second Premiers title in the competition.

Following last weekend’s Semi-Final success their 2016 record stands at 21 straight wins, but Dillon is adamant nothing can be taken for granted against Olympic FC Women in this weekend’s decider.

“There’s always nerves,” the midfielder explained, “Finals is a whole different atmosphere because it’s who shows up on the day.”

“There is no next game, so if you lose then you’re out and that’s it.”

Gators won last year’s inaugural Grand Final in Queensland’s elite women’s club competition and while that marked a piece of history, Dillon believes a win on Sunday at Walton Bridge Reserve will be an even bigger achievement.

“I think it would be bigger than last year because nobody has gone through a whole season without losing a game or dropping any points.”

“We have a goal to go through the season undefeated which no team has done before, so that’s our aim.”

Dillon said the secret to Gators’ run of results was focusing on the structures and processes set in place by coach Rob Askew.

“I think all the girls have come together and gelled really well,” she explained.

“The formation and how we want to play is set in stone. We’ve all pulled it off really well.”

“We’ve been following that criteria and playing our game and not trying to form around how other teams play.”

Gators have never lost to Olympic in four previous meetings in the second tier competition, however, Dillon said those results have been amongst their most hard-fought.

“Every time we have played them we have been nervous and we’ve known it will be tough game when we step on the field.”

“We’re definitely ready for them but it’s just a matter of whether we pull it off on the day,” she concluded.
