MILAWA has moved to ensure its success over the past decade doesn’t come to an end, with Wangaratta Magpies forward Josh Owen set to don the blue and red in 2017.
Owen will take the reins as co-coach alongside Demons stalwart Scott Pell, with Luke O’Keefe and John Conroy stepping aside after three years at the helm.
Owen, 27, has been targeted as an Ovens and King recruit by a number of clubs over the past five years, but said after a decade in the Ovens and Murray, playing around 180 games at senior and reserves level, the time was right for a change.
“I’m getting older, so playing at that level has been getting tougher on my body these past couple of years,” Owen said.
“Coaching is something that I’ve been thinking about for a little while, and I’m at the point where I don’t have a young family, so I’ve got the time to really commit myself to it.
“My dad played out at Milawa and while I’ve never played there, I did grow up around the club.
