Jayden Clarke has made the most of his opportunity to be a regular for the Shepparton Swans after making his debut in round five against Tatura this year.
The 19-year-old talented small forward certainly turned heads a few weeks ago when he took a hanger against Tatura.
He says it was one of those things where he saw the opportunity to have a crack at it and the rest is history.
Clarke says the feeling in the rooms after the season defining win against Seymour was one he wanted to experience every week.
“We got Burkey (Chris Burke – interim coach) into the middle and we sang that song which was an awesome feeling,” Clarke said.
He said the win against Seymour could prove the catalyst to play finals if they can overcome Shepparton United and results fall in their favour.
“We needed that win and we got back to playing our style of football and it paid off,” he said.
“We can’t get ahead of ourselves because the last time we played them it was a close game and they won’t be easy to beat.”
Clarke admits to feeling very nervous and anxious in his first few games of senior football, but he has really blossomed in recent weeks after getting the backing from the coaching group.
“They just told me that I belonged at senior level and that I had the skills to be in the team,” he said.
“Burkey and the boys have just told me to take the game on.”
The small forward began his career at Shepparton East before spending a year with Wanganui Park Secondary College.
After that he decided to join the Swans where he has played for the last four years.
