The first game of last weekend’s Round 17 was played between Kardinia and Barwon at Kardinia College on Saturday and resulted in Barwon going down 3-2 to the home side. Caelli Wood hit the back of the night for Kardinia within the opening three minutes, while Amanda Kovacev later netted a brace for the home side. Emma Rea and Rachael Robertson both scored singles apiece for Barwon.

Over at Waurn Ponds, Deakin Ducks easily defeated Surfside Waves 4-0. Deakin sharpshooter Madeleine Lee Goiw, who is currently in 2nd place in the chase for the Golden Boot award, sealed a brace to try and close the gap between her and first placed scorer Serena Clapp from Drysdale. Meanwhile, Hannah Gordon and Andrea Thornton both scored singles apiece for the Students.

In a very lop sided affair, Drysdale annihilated Geelong 6-0 at Howard Glover Reserve. With Drysdale having the majority of the possession, star attacker Serena Clapp was able to hammer four goals past the hapless Geelong ‘keeper to keep one hand on the Golden Boot Award. Olivia Smith then managed to net a brace to deliver the final blow to the Lions’ chances of causing an upset.

Looking towards the final round before the commencement of the post season phase next week, Surfside Waves will open the round with a clash with Drysdale at Shell Road Reserve on Friday night at 7.30pm. The top two teams Kardinia and Deakin will clash at Kardinia College on Saturday at 1pm, while also on Saturday but with a 3pm kick-off, Barwon will hope to beat Geelong at Grovedale Reserve and make the Top 4 cut.
