TARRAWINGEE’S finals quest continues this week following a stirring 11-point victory over a fired up King Valley in Saturday’s Oven and King elimination final.
Despite being led for just six minutes, the Bulldogs had to hang on for dear life in the final term as the Roos’ relentless pressure looked set to reap massive dividends for the sixth place finisher.
In the end Tarrawingee’s poise, efficiency and superior ball use won out, but it was a near thing, with King Valley refusing to surrender.
While the Roos registered the opening goal of the day through their coach, Hayden Murray, the Bulldogs controlled the play in the first quarter.
Trevor Edwards made the most of a King Valley turnover to set up spearhead Kyle Raven with his first goal before Sam Neave showed his class, kicking two majors of his own and giving off another to Matthew Solimo with a handpass over the top into the goal square.
The Roos were winning their share of the hard ball in the middle, but their delivery into the forward line was slipshod, and as a result Tarrawingee’s defenders were able to clean up any mess.
