Souths Cruise Past UQFC

Souths United Women have wrapped up their regular season with a comfortable 5-0 win over University of Queensland FC Women at Wakerley Park.
Souths, who finished the season in second-place, were rarely trouble by the lower table UQFC – with Deeanna Thompson and Ayesha Norrie’s doubles adding to an early opener from Ambrosia Malone.
The result marks a league double for Souths over UQFC this season and the second time they have held their opponents scoreless.
Souths’ fourth straight win sees them enter next week’s Finals in form, with their opponent to be determined by Monday night’s final match of the round featuring Olympic FC Women.
For UQFC, the result sees them remain in tenth place on the table but eyeing finishing the season in ninth, with a rescheduled fixture against the winless Redlands United Women still to be played.

What They Said
“I thought UQ were well-organised and dropped a lot of players back but we didn’t panic at any time. I was really pleased, especially in the first half we played some really good football. Some of the finishes we had were first class. There’s always things we can improve on but I think at this moment we are playing well, scoring goals and playing with confidence.“ – Gary French, Souths United FC Women coach
