Coulson Eyeing Top Four

Last week’s hat-trick hero Scot Coulson believes Brisbane City sent a powerful statement to rival clubs following their four goal win over Brisbane Roar Youth.
City’s 4-0 win over Young Roar was their biggest of the 2016 season – returning them to the top four and ending a frustrating run of three successive draws for the finals aspirants.
Coulson lead City’s resurgence with his maiden hat-trick for the club, and the former Strikers midfielder is confident that his side can carry now this form into their next two league games, and beyond.
“It wasn’t my first, and I hope it won’t be my last,” Coulson said of his three goal haul.
He added, “I don’t think it’s an individual achievement.”
“I was in the right place right time thanks to some excellent build-up play. So the team did really well to get all four goals last week, not the individual.”
“It was a convincing win, and I think it’s something we've been capable of all season. We played well as a team all over the pitch. It’s definitely a signal that we’re ready play finals football.”
City will need to maintain their form in their final two regular season matches if they are to qualify for the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Finals Series for the first time since 2013.
However, they will need to get the better of two of the competition’s form sides in Redlands United and league-leaders Brisbane Strikers – coincidentally the final two Queensland clubs remaining in the Westfield FFA Cup.
Coulson knows from his own Westfield FFA Cup experience with Strikers in prior seasons that City can’t rely on their opponents being distracted by their upcoming cup ties.
“I don’t think the Westfield FFA Cup will play a big part to be honest.”
“When I was with Strikers we always backed up well in the league, and as players you have to compartmentalise. Both Redlands and Strikers will be looking to do that in the next two weeks,” he concluded.
A win for City over Redlands this weekend will mark a league double for the capital city club, and exact some revenge after Redlands eliminated them from this year’s Westfield FFA Cup.
