Outgoing Brisbane Roar Youth coach Josh McCloughan has thanked Queensland’s football community for supporting his efforts in developing the state’s elite player pathway.
The club announced McCloughan’s surprise departure for “personal reasons” on Monday with two rounds remaining in the PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues season.
In a statement, the former QAS Head Coach moved to clear up his reasons for stepping away from the role.
“In light of the many supportive enquiries I have received since BRFC’s statement Monday regarding my decision to stand aside from my role as Young Roar coach, I feel it necessary to clarify that the reasons for my decision were not of a personal nature as reported,” McCloughan said.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank all NPL and community clubs for their support and collaboration in developing young football talent in Queensland during my tenure.
“The Queensland football community has been a pleasure to work with, and your success and achievements in player development have directly contributed to the success of the player pathway to date.”
McCloughan initially took charge of Young Roar for the 2015/16 Foxtel National Youth League season after previously leading the BRFC/QAS National Training Centre Boys squad.
The Roar foundation squad member has also spent time within Ange Posecoglou’s Caltex Socceroos coaching setup and as a Young Socceroos assistant.
