The finals are now on the doorstep and fourth spot still up for grabs. Wins to the top sides, but the talk surrounds Elliston inability to field a senior team at Wirrulla, injuries and absences have taken their ultimate toll on the Roosters, who are a shadow of what they were six weeks ago, so many serious injuries to playing personnel.
Central Eyre went through a serious finals tune up at Wudinna, where the Maggies also find themselves with injuries and absences. Notwithstanding this, the ‘Dogs were simply outstanding, playing the game on their terms and keeping the ball movement slick and precise. 210 points is a whopping margin, and a testament to the sheer scoring arsenal available at the Doghouse. Shared around as usual and led by a strong mid field and rebounding half back line. Jake Bruce again leading the charge, very hard to tag Jake and his form is back to his very best, Lachlan Heath, another high possession game and covering so much territory, Clint Winter, will o’ the wisp, clean ball handling and damaging with is disposal skills, Jake Sampson plenty of it around the middle, Ty Mc Kenna another good game in the ruck. Strong rebounding half back line, Kane Sampson, Tom Freeth. Zac Fitzgerald with five and Hayden Heath also five leading a scoreline well shared.
Magpies tried hard but couldn’t convert forward moves. Remi North leading the best, winning hard balls from the centreline and working into the back half, Neil Seaman enjoying a consistent season, dash from half back, Dallas Waters strong in defence, Sam Buckham and Tom Dupree worked hard all day. Brayden Chambers and Lachlan Kerr a goal each.
Assignment is tough again next week as the Maggies look to retain their finals spot, against the Hawks. Interestingly, if they do happen to get into the finals, the Adelaide college contingent become available and who knows from there?
The Hawk Machine rev’d into full throttle against the Tigers at Poochera. 143 point winners and a match where they held sway throughout. The Hawks will be focussing on continued improvement, as they no doubt have Bulldog at the back of their mind every week. Dylan Kelsh, big game from the big man, not only as a tap ruckman, but around the ground in the air and on the deck. Mark Dolling outstanding with nine goals, a big return from a centreline player, Dillon Cabot continues his rise back to full powers, Jake Mc Evoy another prolific match and Dale Montgomerie is his usual damaging form.
The Tigers battle away and don’t give up, just hard finding the goal mouth enough. Jerel Fromm leading the best, Jerel has been an outstanding work horse for the Tigers over many years and has played though injury. He continues to be one of the key players for the Tigers, Scott Feltus and Shannon Horgan again high in the best, shouldering huge work loads and vying for League MVP status. Good to see Angus Gunn back in the colours, his run and work ethic is excellent, and Zane Montgomerie good again.
Wirrulla will miss their hit out but have already qualified for finals action and their third place well secure. Maybe the rest will help their cause? They will face either Wudinna United or Elliston in the First Semi final depending on this week’s results. Central Eyre and West Coast Hawks will meet each other again in the second semi final.
Elliston must regroup quickly, they host Western Districts and a win will see them in the finals, as simple as that. The Tigers will be keen to end the season well, maybe the last time some of the current team plays together, rumours of retirement from Jerel Fromm. Districts won this one in round two.
