The South Australian Country team has chalked up its fifth win in succession against WA Country, winning by 36 points at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
Chasing their fourth win in a row under coach Steve Lubcke, the Croweaters had to fight off a spirited challenge in the third term despite leading at every change.
A four-goal purple patch during the premiership quarter turned a two-point deficit into a 22-point buffer thanks to three goals from Meningie’s Myles Warmington and one to Strathalbyn’s Marc Elliott.
From there, the SA boys improved their accuracy in front of goal to put significant scoreboard pressure on the visitors, who were unable to respond.
Croweaters captain Brian Fenton led from the front with his physicality in the centre square while the pairing of former SANFL bigmen Jesse Kemp and Peter Nelson gained a significant advantage at the stoppages.
Southern Saints defender Callum Hay was outstanding in defence, continually repelling WA’s attacking forays while veteran Simon Berkefeld made his presence felt early in the contest by using his vast experience to advantage.
Warmington - who won the Barry Stringer Medal as SA's best player - was also SA’s leading goalkicker with five majors while Elliott booted four to combine well with former Port Magpie Mercer, who tallied three.
