Bloods on a Roll
Although notoriously modest, you wouldn’t blame Westies for going into this match with some confidence. They are coming off of 3 big wins in a row with an average winning margin above 50 points. It would seem that, after some patchy football early on, they seem to have pulled themselves together and hit a real purple patch. Angle Vale on the other hand have been somewhat inconsistent. After almost knocking off 2nd placed Adelaide Uni they went down to 7th placed Greenacres just a week later. Can they find their form? Can they shut down the Bloods scoring power? The big question may just be- where do they start? Katelyn Wilson bagged 3 last week and Ali Evans, who has been very impressive in her first season, always looks dangerous near the big sticks. Rachel Killian has arguably one of the longest set shots in the league and midfielder Kirsty Degabriele will find the goals from any angle. To top it off, silky skilled forward Danielle Cresp, who is back from a prolonged absence due to injury, is hitting form. Luckily for Angle Vale, their defence can be their strength. Chantelle Bandtock always works hard across half back and will no doubt be charged with shutting down a main forward. If Bandtock’s defence can be disciplined and keep their respective players quiet, Angle Vale may be able to release Brittany Perry off the half back. Perry has an uncanny ability to read the ball and consistently chops off the supply before it gets anywhere near the goals. Swing-woman Lauren Bungey is another option for the defence if required, but only if speedsters Lesley “Flash” Burrows and Ruby Allen can cover her absence in the forward line.
West Adelaide should come away with the win comfortably here but Angle Vale certainly have the talent to put up a fight. With their season on the line, this is the time for them to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

A Taste of Finals Footy
Both Christies Beach and Adelaide Uni have been tantalisingly close to knocking off a top 3 team in the back half of the season. In round 13 Christies went down to 3rd placed Mt Barker by six points and just last week they lost to top of the ladder Morphettville in an absolute nail biter. In round 12 Adelaide Uni saw their own share of heart break, getting close to Mt Barker but going down by 4 points. Christies came out on top the last time they met by 8 points in an absolute arm wrestle and, with the weather of late, it looks like this one will be another hard slog for both teams. Emma Yates, who came back into the side last game, will be an integral part of the Christies line up in these conditions. Yates is a strong player who knows how to stick a clean, hard tackle. Christies’ U18’s have been impressive of late, showing they aren’t afraid to fight hard for the footy. The Saints will also be looking to Mel Coster to continue her good form. Coster is a utility player whose sweeping ability and run is integral to Christies’ success. The midfield battle will be interesting, with Captain Alana Browne (Christies) coming off a very impressive best on ground performance and Adelaide Uni missing young gun Ebony O’Dea and courageous winger Nhi Huynh. Uni will need Alexandra Cannizzaro to step up again this week and make an impact around the contests. Last week Cannizzaro paired up with Hannah Beale, breaking packs and putting the ball in long to Beale who finished with 8 to her name. Jordan Dickie will also be important for the Blacks. She is an in and under player who, if it is a close game, will battle it out until the bitter end.
With only 4 games to go and finals looming, neither team will want to let another close one slip. Expect this one to go down to the wire, with the home team just getting over the line.
