The Ducks finished on top of the ladder having a win in every single round apart from ‘suffering’ one draw against Surf Coast. Their impressive striker Harry Woolley scored a total of 29 goals over the 13 rounds with his highest effort being eight goals in one game!
Barwon Reds followed behind Deakin, finishing in second spot on the ladder with 9 wins for the season. The Red’s biggest win for the season was a 9-0 victory over sister team, Barwon Blue. Barwon’s leading goal scorer was Sean Mahon who scored 18 goals during the regular season.
Surf Coast finished in third spot, just one point ahead of Geelong Rangers. The Coasters’ most impressive win of the season was a 7-0 victory over Elcho Park Cardinals. Scott James was their leading goal scorer with a total of seven goals.
Rangers, who were neck and neck with Surf Coast for the coveted third spot, finished in fourth spot with their best performance coming in their last round clash against Drysdale when they claimed a 6-0 victory. Rangers had two goal scorers tied for their golden boot award, with Ben Noble and Scott Davison both netting seven goals apiece.
Surfside Waves have finished in fifth place, putting up a great contest in the majority of their games. Their biggest win for the season was against Elcho Park Cardinals with a 10-0 scoreline. Jack Pedler was their leading goal scorer with 13 goals.
In a surprise finish, Breakwater Eagles finished in sixth spot after a slow start to the season. Breakwater’s biggest win was against Barwon Blue with the result being 6-0 while the Eagles’ leading goalscorer was Branden Duthie who finished with 12 goals to his name.
The Top Six Pool A play-off phase will kick off this weekend with all three matches to be contested on Friday night.
Top placed Deakin Ducks will host Breakwater Eagles on Deakin University’s synthetic pitch at it’s Waurn Ponds campus, Surf Coast will host Surfside Waves at Banyul Warri Reserve while Barwon will host Geelong Rangers at Grovedale Reserve. All games kick off at 8:30pm.
