Coburg’s Luke Ryan has been invited to test at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft Combine to be conducted at Etihad Stadium from Thursday October 6 to Sunday October 9.
Ryan, 20, has enjoyed a rapid rise at the Lions in his first Peter Jackson VFL season after graduating from the Calder Cannons TAC Cup program in 2015. The 185cm defender is averaging 20 disposals, six marks and almost seven rebound-50s per game in nine matches since making his senior debut in Round 3.
Footscray VFL-listed player Ben Long has also been invited to the Combine. The 19-year-old Northern Territory native and former Northern Knights TAC Cup player is a member of VFL Academy, debuting late in the season and was part of the Bulldogs premiership side.
Players had to be nominated by at least five AFL clubs in order to be invited to the Combine, which tests the athletic traits and football skills of attendees as well as assessing their personality and character.
AFL National and International Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan said the Combine was important part of AFL clubs’ drafting processes.
“The Draft Combine is the final chance many clubs will have to see prospective players up close,” Sheehan said. “Clubs will not only watch the testing but will conduct interviews with players as they count down to the 2016 NAB AFL Draft in Sydney.”
