This weekend, Peter Jackson VFL clubs will encourage fans to remember the passion, not the odds, as part of a ‘Love the Game’ Round.
AFL Victoria, together with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is showing its support of the ‘Love the Game’ campaign through a number of initiatives, focused on helping reduce the exposure of our fans, officials and players to sports betting promotion.
AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said with increased exposure to sports betting advertising through the media, new apps and technology, the ‘Love the Game’ Round will help remind football supporters what really matters.
“AFL Victoria understands the importance of responsible gambling and will encourage clubs to focus on the love of the game, not the odds, not just this weekend but every round of the season,” Reaper said.
“Our ongoing partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation will help educate and raise awareness of responsible gambling within the community.
“People need to be aware of their limits with gambling and the impact it can have on young people in a sporting club environment.”

Box Hill Hawks General Manager Chris Nanni said his club supports the great work the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation are doing in delivering the message of love the game, not the odds.
“The “Love the Game” campaign is a fantastic way to raise awareness as to why we all start participating or following AFL,” Nanni said.
Richmond CEO Brendan Gale said the club is looking forward to the Round 16 VFL clash.
“Through Richmond’s partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, the Club has signed the Responsible Gambling Charter and committed to promoting responsible gambling,” Gale said.
“We’re thrilled to be involved in ‘Love the Game’ Round this year, and we hope to see our members and supporters at Sunday’s game.”
The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is working with more than 160 clubs across the state at both the elite and local sporting level to counter the growing culture of gambling in sport.
Many Victorian clubs and leagues around the state have joined in supporting the Foundation’s message by signing the Responsible Gambling Charter and promoting the ‘Love the Game’ campaign.
The Charter, which has been signed by nine Victorian-based AFL clubs, aims to separate ‘the game’ from gambling.
Endorsing the Charter at the VFL and TAC Cup season launch earlier this year, AFL Victoria is encouraging community football clubs to sign up to help ensure they continue to provide a safe, healthy and inclusive environment for players, families, members and supporters.
With finals just around the corner, the action on the field is as exciting as ever, so it is important to remember to focus on the love of the game.
