Port to spoil the party?
Adelaide Uni will be looking for a win to reclaim 2nd spot from West Adelaide this weekend. The Blacks took home their first double the last time these two teams met, with both Div. 1 and Div. 2 knocking off the Magpies by more than 40 points each. However, the 43-point victory to Uni’s Div. 1 side was less than convincing. After kicking away to a 38 point lead in the first half, the Blacks were only able to add one goal to their tally for the match. Led by Bronwyn Davies, the Pt Adelaide team used their stronger bodies around the ball and stepped up the pressure in the second half, controlling much of the play. Had Port been able to transition the footy better and convert, the margin would have been much smaller. Since that match Port have not only continued to build their strong inside mids, but they have found themselves some great runners to assist in the much needed transition work. Renai Richardson has been providing great outside run and the inclusion of Jess Evans this match will also add a boost Ports legs. Adelaide Uni will be looking for Julie Power and Jess Edwards to lead the way for their mids, trying to ensure Port don’t get first hands to the ball late in the match this time. Should Uni be struggling against Port’s mid they will surely look to young gun Sibella Hare to set the tone with her full throttle attack on the ball. The home team will be looking to sharpen their forward entries, bringing arguably one of their best forwards, Kristi Harvey, back in from a week off. If she has the fresh legs Uni will be hoping for, she will be hard to stop. Port will be looking to sneak a surprise victory here, but if the home team can keep their composure they will be expected to take not only the win, but second spot on the ladder.

Pines hunting first win
After a tough 2015, Western Suburbs have regrouped and attacked 2016 with new vigour. Getting through last year with no wins and a total score of 100 for the season, this year has seen them chalk up four wins and almost 300 points already. With the support of their club and coaching team behind them, the team has really started to gel and put together some good football. Stacey Clavell has been working hard in the ruck to give her mids first use of the ball. Mids Catiline Dale, Billie Jo Nicholls and Ashleigh Vaskelainen have been giving plenty in the engine room, with Caitlin and Jo providing much needed run and Ashleigh thriving in the hard wet weather footy of late. North Pines, who are still in their first season in the League, are now starting to find their feet. After kicking only 20 points in the first half of the season they have managed to add 60 to their tally in just the past three games. To continue to add to their tally this week they will need star players Michelle Haddon and Kimberlee Kite out on the park playing their best footy. Michelle has been working hard all over the ground in the last few weeks, racking up numerous possessions, creating goals and impressing onlookers. If the Pines can get on the scoreboard early, and play four quarters on consistent footy they are in with a change this weekend. The Hawks however, will be looking for win number 5 and will prove a hard task at home. If they can keep their eyes on the prize and ride out any early pressure, they should be able to steady the ship and take out the match.
