Wagga sends large squad to Kanga Cup

6 teams from Wagga took part in Australia's largest youth football tournament last week. The Kanga Cup, held in Canberra, attracted over 300 teams and some 3000 players for a week-long football fiesta. In addition, a composite Wagga/Western Region team participated in the u14 Girls competition.

Although it was exceptionally wet (yes, they had ground closures too), games were played throughout the week with a great level of enthusiasm, everyone had a lot of fun.

Some of our achievements include:

  • The Under 10's made the final of the Plate! After an undefeated run which included two wins against the International Football School, they lost the final against a well-drilled side from Balmain in Sydney.
  • Our very own Hope Gray won the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament in the Under 14 Girls competition over 200 other girls
  • Our under 12 and under 15 sides narrowly missed out on Semi Final places
  • In their first ever Kanga Cup, our Under 9 and u11 sides played with enormous courage and determination, improving with every game
  • Our Under 13's did us proud with a win and a draw in their pool games
