Hawks fly away with win over Magpies
Modbury Hawks have secured fourth place on the ladder after a tough clash against the Salisbury Magpies on Saturday night at Modbury’s home ground.
The two sides defended strongly with many turnovers inside 50 of both ends; however, it was Modbury who took the lead with a goal in the first term.
The two sides were evenly matched for much of the first half, with only a goal separating the teams.
Modbury’s Abbey Sheer scored early in the third term, strengthening the Hawks lead.
However, clever defensive positioning by Salisbury’s Ashleigh Woodland resulted in a turnover, swiftly kicking the ball down the field where team mate Sarah Allan scored Salisbury’s only goal for the match.
In the midfield, Modbury’s Cloe Sheer had a major influence bringing the ball down with strong marks and accurate passing.
The result was put beyond doubt on the final quarter with goals to Abbey Sheer and Caitlen Teague, and the hawks ran out comfortable winners by 12 points.
Modbury 4.4 28 defeated Salisbury 1.10 16
