Kleinhans Return Sets Pride Record

Daniel Kleinhans’ return from long-term injury last weekend against Northern Fury saw him become Western Pride’s longest serving player.
The defender missed over a year of football after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the lead-up to the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues 2015 season.
However, he finally made his return to the senior line-up in the 3-3 draw against Fury after first-time regulars Alistair Wallis and Will McFarlane missed the match with suspension.
Kleinhans, who debuted as a 16-year-old for Pride in the club’s inaugural 2013 season against Moreton Bay United, conceded to plenty of nervous excitement prior to his senior return.
“It was pretty exciting to be called up for my first senior game after so long, but the nerves before the game definitely kicked in,” he said.
“Although my performance wasn't too bad, apart from a few mistakes, I was happy to just get my chance.”
Kleinhans’ appearance means he is the last remaining player from Pride’s foundation squad, which was coached by former Socceroo Kasey Wehrman.
He said he noticed massive changes at Pride over the years but was also encouraged by the continued focus on providing opportunities for young talent from the greater Ipswich region.
“The changes that Karl Dodd brought in last year and what Graham Harvey has continued about giving young players a go has been great,” Kleinhans said.
“Playing for Pride has taught me so much more about football, and to play with passion for yourself and the club.”
Kleinhan’s said his focus remains training hard and pushing for more game time, but also conceded he still harbours ambitions of making the step to the professional level.
“After my reconstruction I found I had lost a lot of fitness and simple touch of the ball, so I want to get that back,” Kleinhans said.
“Since having my knee reconstruction I'm really just trying to get back into the first team, but I do dream of an A-league career.”
Pride travel to Brisbane City this weekend with the aim of ending a five match winless run.
