MURCHISON v VIOLET TOWN
Violet Town produced arguably its best win under the watch of Pip O’Donoghue when defeating last year’s runner-up in a highly entertaining contest last weekend.
Not only was that the best win under O’Donoghue, it was their best of 2016 and in winning they protected their hold on sixth place.
The Towners’ are on the road to take on an improved Murchison today and the former Benalla star player knows the girls must not let their guard down given the Grasshoppers need to keep winning to be any chance of playing finals.
Murchison has made huge inroads this year but it has struggled to match it with the teams above it on the ladder.
Coach Phil Bryant knows his girls need to claim a big scalp to be considered genuine finals contenders.
With so much on the line, Violet Town should be able to continue its winning form.
Tip: Violet Town.
LANCASTER v AVENEL
This promises to be a fantastic contest and I think both coaches will find out a little bit about their team’s title aspirations after today.
Both are genuine chances to challenge Nagambie for the title, with Avenel sitting in second and Lancaster in fourth.
Many would argue to win the title you need to finish in the top two, so a win for Avenel today will take it a step closer to securing the all-important double chance while Lancaster needs to keep winning to remain an outside chance of claiming a top two finish.
Both come into the game off the back of good wins last weekend and the team that can make the most of the opportunities will come away with the points.
Tip: Avenel.
UNDERA v LONGWOOD
Both of these teams will see this as an opportunity to chalk up a win.
For Longwood, it will be searching for its first of the season while Undera will be out to add to the two victories it has had this year.
Neither of these teams will play finals, but there is still plenty to play for in the remaining games.
Undera will start the favourite, but if Longwood is close at three quarter time you never know what could happen.
Tip: Undera.
TALLYGAROOPNA v MERRIGUM
Tallygaroopna will be out to avoid a fourth straight defeat which I can’t remember the last time this occurred for the proud club.
Last weekend, the girls fought hard to avoid a third straight loss when taking on Violet Town.
Coach Julie Telford would have learnt plenty about her team during this period where some key players have been missing.
Those key members are likely to be available in the coming weeks, which is sure to help them finish off the remaining games with more wins than losses.
Merrigum had an all-important win to stay in the hunt to play finals last weekend, but to do so it will need to claim a big scalp.
Tip: Tallygaroopna.
OTHER
In the remaining two matches, Nagambie should be too strong for Girgarre to remain unbeaten while Stanhope will be keen to consolidate its place in the top four when it travels to Rushworth.
Tips: Nagambie and Stanhope.
