SWQ Thunder have bolstered their midfield stocks with the club announcing they have signed Korean import Hong Soon Im.
Im joins Thunder for the remainder of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues season and is also expected to be part of the squad for next season’s campaign.
It is understood the 22-year-old playmaker will be deployed in a central or attacking midfield role.
Im last played for Paju Citizen in the K3 League – the fourth tier of football in Republic of Korea.
His previous clubs also include fellow K3 League side Goyang Citizen and Kapfenberger SV of Austria’s second tier Erste Liga competition.
Speaking with the assistance of a translator, Im said he was excited to join Thunder.
“I am looking to make a meaningful contribution for the remainder of this season and into next season,” he explained.
Thunder Technical Director Salvatore Sottile said Im’s signing is an immediate boost for the club's flagging finals hopes but also the first stage of Thunder’s preparation for next season.
“Our preparation for the 2017 and 2018 seasons starts now,” Sottile explained.
He added, “To have Noah for the remaining matches this season means we will finish the year in the best way possible,” he said.
Im could take the field as early as this weekend for the Toowoomba-based club after Thunder confirmed his international transfer clearance was approved late on Thursday.
