Sunshine Coast Women brought an abrupt end to Peninsula Power Women’s improving form with a straightforward 6-0 win at Kawana Sports Precinct on Wednesday night.
Despite entering the match on the back of a pair of impressive performances, Power failed to deal with Fire’s attacking options as Samara Christmas and Kirsty Clifford both scored braces.
Clifford’s twin strikes sandwiched a Christmas header to hand the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break, before the latter put the result beyond doubt with a fourth in the 63rd minute.
Linley Archard and Danielle White both joined the scoresheet in the final 25 minutes as Fire jumped two places to eighth with their third win of the campaign.
Power slide back to 10th ahead of a tough weekend trip to league-leaders The Gap Women.

What They Said
“(It’s) about time we got ourselves three deserved points. I think going a goal up nice and early really set the tone. We kept the ball well, moved the ball well. We’ve worked on so many different components at training and it all come together tonight. (It) was just a complete performance – our best performance of the season for me.” – Tom White, Sunshine Coast FC Women coach.
“For me the biggest issue with our performance tonight was that we dropped off so far from the two very good games that we’ve had in the last week. The biggest thing for young players is inconsistency. I’ll be okay with that as long as they can bounce back next week and have another strong performance. The intensity was way off so that’s what we need.” – Michael Cook, Peninsula Power FC Women coach.
