SA won the toss and elected to kick with the breeze which was blowing towards to the half forward line.
After a tight 10 minutes which had resulted in a solitary point for the Vic, Lachlan Button kicked truly from the right pocket to bring up SA’s first major. Two more goals to Weistra and McKay leaves SA with a 19 point lead at quarter time

With the breeze VIC started well in the second kicking two goals in the first 6 minutes but only manages 5 points for the remaining quarter. Skara kicked SA’s first goal for the quarter at the 10 minute mark after selling some candy. A sickening head clash saw Michael Clinch stretchered from the ground halfway through the quarter and not return for the rest of the game with concussion. This seemed to spur SA on as they kicked 4 goals on the trot, one each to Button and De Prinse, bookended by two goals from Luke Harder to give SA a 33 point advantage going in to the main break.

The third quarter was a tight affair with Vic kicking its only goal in the first minute and SA’s only goal for the quarter coming at the 12 minute mark from Luke Harder, his third for the day.

Early in the last quarter Alex McKay marks and quickly handball to Harder to kick his fourth putting SA a game high 45 points up. SA then put the cue in the rack but VIC were not going to lie down kicking 5 goals in eight minutes to SA’s four points to bring the margin back to 18 points with 5 minutes to play. SA rallied to hold the VIC’s to one more point before the final siren. The final score flattering the VIC’s and masking the dominance that SA held for the majority of the day.
